It is a centralized level entrance test for admissions to National Law Universities in India. Candidates who have finished their 12th in any stream(Commerce/Science/Arts) can pursue the 5- year graduation course known as BA LL.B However, those who have got a Bachelors’ degree in any stream can complete the LL.B program within 3 years. An interesting fact is that BA LLB is an integrated program, by studying the same; aspirants may get a dual degree whereas by studying the Bachelor of Laws they will be getting only a single degree. Both the courses provide knowledge about legal system and should not be compared simply because they serve to two different audiences. And the most important fact is that for that purpose you need to crack CLAT exam or law entrance of different universities.

CLAT Syllabus For CLAT exam

So, first of all let’s discuss about CLAT syllabus, so that you all can easily manage your time and put your efforts in right direction. CLAT Syllabus designed in such a manner to test the aptitude, skills and abilities of candidates. CLAT syllabus consist of various sections to analysis skill level. It is said that there is one exam for law entrance. But , this one CLAT Exam consists of five subjects. Hereby , NK Judiciary tries you to explain each subject or section thoroughly that divided in CLAT Syllabus /CLAT exam :
1. English Language: This section consist of passages around 450-500 words each. Generally, these passages are contemporary or historical fiction/non-fiction. As each passage will be followed by questions. By using your skills and abilities you need to answer the question.
Some points to be remembered while reading these passages:
(a) Focus on the main point discussed in the passage and draw your reasoning/conclusions based on the passage.
(b) Properly understand the meaning of words given as well as phrases used in the passage.
(c) If there is any argument set out in passage, thoroughly read and comprehend the viewpoints discussed or set out in the passage.
(d) Concise the passage, so that its able to understand in limited time(5-8minutes)
2. Current Affairs: This section consist of passages around 450-500 words each and each passage is followed by series of questions. The passages will be derived from any journalistic sources, news and other non- fiction stories/writing.
Here, Points to consider :
(a) Your awareness in aspects of current affairs and general knowledge.
(b) Show some interest in learning international affairs also.
(c) Contemporary events (India and the world).
(d) Arts and Culture
(e) Sometimes questions may include an examination of any legal information/knowledge discussed in passage but would not require any additional knowledge of the law beyond the passage.
3. Legal Reasoning: Hope, now you understand that in CLAT syllabus, News and journalistic sources plays an important role. In this section also , passages may relate to fact situations or scenarios involving legal matters, public policy questions or moral philosophical inquiries. Passages of around 450 – 500 words each would be followed by series of questions. The good point in this section is that, you will not require any prior knowledge of law.
While answering questions, you will require to:
(a) Identify the rules and principles set out in the passage;
(b) Apply such rules and principles to various fact situations; and
(c) Understand how changes to the rules or principles may alter their application to various fact situations. (d) You will benefit from a general awareness of contemporary legal and moral issues to better apply general principles or propositions to the given fact scenarios.
4. Logical Reasoning: So,as we can see that this changed pattern of CLAT syllabus also consist of logical reasoning section . Here , also include passages of around 250-300 words each followed by series of questions. To answer the question of this section, you will require to:
(a) Give more concern to analysis of inferences and arguments.
(b) Critically analysis the arguments, pattern of reasoning and how conclusions may depend on particular evidence.
(c ) Apply inferences to new situations.
(d) Draw relationships and analogies, identify contradictions and assess the effectiveness of arguments.
5. Quantitative Techniques: Practicising of this section with material such as 10 th standard mathematics books . This part QA covered questions from ratios and proportion, basic algebra mensuration and statistical estimation etc. This will include short sets of facts & propositions, graphs or other diagrammatic representations of numerical information, followed by questions. Thorough analysis of these graphs, passages or diagrammatic representations assist to apply mathematical operations on such information. CLAT syllabus is vast. Its completion required appropriate planning. Students have started looking at legal education as a viable career option.
